This talk features Executive Master of Public Administration candidate Amit Nirmal, discussing the diverse international borders of India. For the Indian government, border management is a necessary yet challenging component of a broader national security strategy. Being a large nation, India possesses an extraordinarily long border divided between multitudes of terrain types. Whether it is the deserts and swamps of the West, the jungles and rivers of the East or the mountains of the North, border security forces must contend with a very different set of threats. Compounding this challenge are the different approaches needed depending on which neighboring state is being discussed. About the speaker: Amit Nirmal is an EMPA candidate who most recently worked as the Director in Ministry of Home Affairs in the Government of India, where he was responsible for border management of the Pakistan and Bangladesh borders. While earning his degree, Amit hopes to get a global exposure in public administration that will be valuable when implementing public policy within an official government’s executive framework. He completed his B.S. and M.S. in Statistics from the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur.
