Maurice Sarr, EMPA Candidate A recent Google search for "China and Africa" generated 35,300,000 entries. The implied presence of China in Africa (say measured in Google-Entry-Value or "GEV") was higher than "UK and Africa," "Japan and Africa," and "EU and Africa." From an "African" perspective, how much of an opportunity does China represent for trade and investment in Africa? Mr. Maurice Sarr, an EMPA candidate from Senegal, discussed China's increasingly visible presence in Africa, and how this relationship affects traditional "Western" players. Prior to coming to the Maxwell School, Mr. Maurice Sarr served as the head of business development and senior broker specializing in international trade credit and political risk insurance with PLATUS. Upon graduation, Mr. Sarr hopes to develop infrastructure in African countries using the expertise he gained during his time at Maxwell. During his Peer to Peer session, Mr. Sarr brought knowledge from his home country of Senegal¬ to the discussion.
